What we keep, and why.
Last updated 18 October 2026
United by Threads reads Vedic astrology from the minute you were born. To do that it has to keep some personal things — your birth details above all. This page says plainly what we keep, what we use it for, who helps us run the service, and how you can see or delete it. Questions go to hello@unitedbythreads.ca.
What we keep
- Your account — your email address and the name you give us. We sign you in with a six-digit code sent to that address; there is no password.
- Birth details — the date, time and place you were born, and the same for anyone you add to your People page. The place is turned into map coordinates so the chart can be drawn.
- What you tell us — the questions you ask for a reading, what you say is going on and how you feel, your conversations with the astrologer, your intentions, and the notes you keep through the day.
- What we make for you — your charts, readings, compatibility reports and daily readings.
- Where you are now, if you allow it — a rough location for the hours of your day. You can name a town instead, or leave it out.
- Connections — who you have connected with on the app. A connection shares your chart with that person and nothing else: not your exact birth time or place, your notes, readings or conversations.
- Notifications, if you turn them on — the address your browser gives us for sending them, and the times you chose.
- Your plan — whether you are on Free or Plus, and what you have used this month. Payments are taken by Stripe; we never see or keep your card details.
In your browser we keep your sign-in and a few preferences (light or dark, plain words or astrologer’s terms). We do not use advertising trackers or sell anything about you.
What we use it for
- To draw your chart and write your readings, daily readings and reports, and to answer your questions.
- To email you your sign-in codes and your readings, and the occasional note about the service — you can unsubscribe from those at any time.
- To keep the service working, safe and within its limits, and to fix what goes wrong.
Who helps us run it
We share only what each needs to do its job:
- OpenAI writes the readings and the astrologer’s answers, from your chart and what you asked. Under its business terms, what we send is not used to train its models.
- Render hosts our servers and database (in the United States); Vercel hosts the website.
- Maileroo sends our emails.
- Google (Sheets) keeps a record of each reading request — your email, birth details and question — which we use to deliver readings and to help when one goes wrong.
- LangSmith (from LangChain), when we use it to check the quality of readings, sees what OpenAI sees for those readings.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) and LocationIQ turn a place name into coordinates.
- Stripe takes payments for Plus.
- Your browser’s maker (for example Apple, Google or Mozilla) carries notifications, if you turn them on.
People you add
When you add someone’s birth details — a partner, a parent, a friend — please be sure they would be happy for you to. Their details are used only to draw their chart for you, and are deleted with your account or when you remove them.
Keeping and deleting it
We keep your things for as long as you have an account. You can delete a reading, a person, a note or an intention at any time, and you can close your account from Account → This device: that deletes your profile, your people, readings, conversations, reports, intentions and notes, and ends your connections. If you are on Plus, cancel it first so nothing more is charged.
A few things outlive an account: emails we have already sent you, records a payment processor must keep by law, the record of your reading requests in Google Sheets (write to us and we delete it), and routine backups and logs, which are overwritten within about 30 days. To ask for a copy of what we hold, or for anything to be corrected or deleted, write to hello@unitedbythreads.ca — we answer within 30 days.
Children
The service is for people aged 16 and over.
Changes
If we change what we keep or who helps us run the service, we update this page and its date, and tell you by email when the change matters.
